Average review score:

Shoes is a wonderful read aloud book for youngsters.
As a media specialist, I have thoroughly enjoyed using SHOES with my first graders and kindergarteners. The children love to take off their shoes and wiggle those toes. They also enjoy anticipating the next page. This book is a must for any elementary library and for the home.

Dear Five Star:

I was a frustrated director until I met "The Sixty-Minute Shakespeare." Here was everything I needed: the plot of Romeo and Juliet cut down to a manageable size, production suggestions, blocking notes, set of sound requirements, property lists, detailed stage directions and even the definitions of some of Shakespeare's more obscure words and phrases. I never would have attempted directing a group of homeschoolers, ages 7-14, a Shakespearean production without this marvelous book. And I would have deprived them of an extremely rewarding experience: they worked very hard and the production was highly praised by the community. Not only that, but I am certain that most harbor a distinct affection for the works of Mr. Shakespeare. What more could a homeschool mother and Shakespearian enthusiast desire? Thank you Five Star Publications for providing my children with a never-to-be-forgotten educational memory that was a whole lot of fun!

Sincerely, Susan Zelie Homeschool Educator

Sixty-Minute Shakespeare : Twelfth Night
Published in Paperback by Five Star Pub (14 June, 2000)
Authors: Cass Foster and Paul M. Howey
Average review score:

From the back cover
The Sixty-Minute Shakespeare series is an ideal alternative for those who lack the time or resources to tackle the unabridged versions of the world's most widely read playwright. This smooth-flowing and carefully edited series works well for fully mounted productions, scene work in the classroom, and the study of Shakespeare's plays in general. While the language is condensed, the integrity of Shakespeare's writing is kept intact so students of the Bard can experience the thrill of the story as well as the beauty of the verse and prose.

Average review score:

Some wonderful nature writing here
This book will make you want to get out into the places beyond the artifacts of civilization and spend some time in the beauty and quiet. Some of our best poets (Wendell Berry, Gary Snyder) and writers (Robert Bly, Matthew Fox, Terry Tempest Williams) tell us eloquently why they go to the wilderness to be closer to themselves and their God. Inspiring!

Supermarket Remedies
Published in Hardcover by Knowledge House (February, 1998)
Authors: Cass Ingram and Judy Kay Gray
Average review score:

most interesting
This is a very good book. In his book Cass Ingram lists the most available foods (incl. herbs & spices etc...) with their cures. In a first part of the book he sums up the 12 most common diseases (heart disease, cancer, arthritis, ADD, etc...) linked with the 12 most important (supermarket) remedies to cure the illness. In another chapter he reviews all possible supermarket remedies (foods), gives some tips on storing and using the foods and explains why the food can cure certain ailments. I do like this book because with some inexpensive remedies (foods) one can do wonders. No more searching for hard to find and costly remedies, but just simple remedies that can soften or cure ailments. A must have.

Sworn to Defend
Published in Hardcover by Berkley Pub Group (August, 1998)
Author: Carolyn Wheat
Average review score:

Another fascinating legal thrillerby the great Ms.Wheat
At the Appellate level, Brooklyn attorney Cass Jamison proves that her client Keith Jernigan could not have committed the robbery that he was previously convicted of, thus obtaining freedom for the innocent man. Subsequently, Cass gets embroiled in a divorce case when her tenant Nellis Cartwright wants her previous settlement with her former spouse, Grant Eddongton, re-negotiated because she insists her attorney, a friend of Cass, botched up the case.

Keith reappears in Cass' life when the son of her secretary is arrested after forming a friendship with the man. Cass suspects that Keith had something to do with the arrest and begins to investigate the man. She learns that though he was framed for the robbery count that she got him acquitted on, he threw acid into the face of a former girlfriend. When Nellis is shot in her office, Cass thinks that she might have been the intended target and wonders if she is again going to on guard until she gets some answers.

SWORN TO DEFEND is a great 250 page mystery novel that fans will swear is one of the best fictions pieces of the year due to an intriguing twist on the story line in which the client is innocent of the charges, but culpable for a more devastating crime. However, the final few pages seem as if Carolyn Wheat needed an upbeat-like ending for a climax, which thankfully fails to take away from a greatand fast-paced tour of Brooklyn that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. Fans of urban legal procedurals need to read this novel and Cass' previous two stories (DEAD MAN'S THOUGHTS and MEAN STREAK) for some of the best the crime genre has to offer.
